duh, you even wrote it already. Somehow my brains read two heads rather than two quadras:-)

The more I think about it and the more I feel that 2 heads on one generator will never be as flexible as two full separate sets.

Well actually I'm using two quadras here.

That's true.
I also use two rangers in the field.
I did it with one and an extension cord but somehow that never really worked for me.
Although there are A LOT of people out there were it would work just fine.
I love to light from extreme angles however and from a distance so having two is really something I like to use in the field, and of course you have double the time Cheesy

Bought a complete set today from Fotoflits. It's the first time I visit them, and I'm by no way related to them.... but they ROCK !
It's been a long time since I received so much attention and dedication from a sales team. Thanks to them !

I've done a few shots already, simple selfportrait and the kids.... Excellent so far.

One big issue is that the adaptor ring is not available and it's unclear when it will be. So I did not by the beauty dish :-(

Fotoflits is great, they indeed still have time and attention for the customer and they ROCK Cheesy

Today I taught a workshop at a car junkyard with corine and the Quadras were also taken.
They worked with a group of 6 all day and when arriving back at the studio the power was arround 50%, most of the time they were used on full power or half.
So to be honest very impressive, I suspected them to run on empty much quicker but they didn't.

Just the bare units here some samples shot with the quadras :

Overall I'm VERY impressed with these little guys, it opens up a lot of possibilities when you travel light, and I mean light, they fit in the same space as one Ranger without the heads, so you can carry the Quadra and the two heads in the same space as only the ranger.
This is great for people who don't need to fight the sunlight and want some stunning location results.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!

I will try to keep shooting with the Quadras and upload more material, but first this week some small infomercials will be made for Elinchrom.

I just went to http://www.fotoflits.nl/ and Corine is on the main page with the Quadra (it is a popup that goes away on its own)

Cool

Frank's pictures are excellent !

I shot 3 models yesterday in full sun and I must say the Quadra delivered - I also was surprised to do a full day with only one battery !

Now, where is this adaptor so I can buy the beauty dish. That's the only issue as far as I'm concerned with this system.

Hi Everybody,
just logged myself in. Been reading for a while.

One Question about the different heads:
What is the difference between the A and the S head. (I know about the flashduration).
But does the fast S head need more battery, so that the battery runs empty quicker? I would love to get a technical explanation!
How does this work with the capacitor? Is it just one that can discharge quicker? If so shouldn't it need less power? (because the Energy used is used over a shorter time span, so the lumen/watt efficiency is better )??

Afterall my question is:
Despite the small difference in price (here in Germany just 60 EUR) and flashduration, are there any other differences between the two?

Thanks so much! Any comment is much appreciated!

Hi,
For what I know (but I'm not an Elinchrom tehnician).

The A heads are the fastest (A for Action, S for Standard).
The A heads are not coated, meaning they are a bit different in color than the S heads, but when using both A heads you will ofcourse not see a difference, except maybe when mixing A with S heads but even than I wonder if most people will see it.

With batterylife I think both are equal, the maindifference is the flashtube.
For me I always choose the A heads because I often want to freeze action so the A heads is the most logical choice.

Thanx for the info, looks like a great unit.

A few questions if you dont mind.

1. How do you feel the build of the swivel mount holds up ? Of course larger softboxes then 100x100cm isnt really meant to be used but how does it compare to the RX series  mount.

2.The pack is 400w/s, is it enough on a sunny day to overpower the sun ?

3. Im contemplating on getting another Ranger RX (already have a RX Speed A/S) or the Quadra, but im worried it wont pack enough power.

I see both benefits and downsides with the quadra, i most likley get both ranger RX/Quadra but im contempleting on wich to get first.

Thanx.

Hi,
1. the swifel is nice but it will indeed stop with app 1mtr softboxes as I see it.
2. overpowering the sun is already difficult with 1100ws and the maxispot so 400ws will be a little to little.
3. the rx ranger will stay on top of it's game however there are ALOT of sessions were you don't need the big power of the ranger RX and the lightweight Quadra could work wonders.
Think about beach sessions, portraits outside etc.

Thanx Frank for the reply!

Yes i would imagine the Quadra would be a little to weak for that, still enough power to provide fill in many situations ?

One final question, can a pockwetwizard be attached to it ?

I use both skyport and Pocketwizards on  my Ranger RX Speed, this so i can control the power, and meter it wireless.

Thanx.

It runs skyport internally.
I don't know if you can trigger it with PW but I think you can use the external trigger input 3.5 jack ?
